Description
Our Firesmart Collection for Zone 3 (Extended) is designed to enhance the farthest-reaching areas of your yard from 30-100 feet and beyond. In Zone 3, this collection will help to maintain defensible space on your property while also blending your yard into the surrounding landscape. These hard-to-find native shrubs and long-blooming flowers offer year-round interest and create habitat for birds and wildlife. Their natural beauty creates an aesthetic transition between your natural surroundings and the more heavily modified Zones 1 and 2 in your yard.
FireSmart Collection – Zone 3 (Extended) includes 6 plants, covering approximately 60 square feet:
- Red Rocks® Penstemon
- West Texas Grass Salvia
- Pawnee Buttes® Sand Cherry (Prunus)
- Sulphur-flower Buckwheat
- Cheyenne® Mock Orange
- Little Trudy® Nepeta
Defensible space is a concept for FireSmart landscaping that involves creating a buffer zone around your property to help slow or stop the spread of fire. This space is divided into three main zones determined by the distance from a structure. High Country Gardens has developed a plant collection for each zone, to easily turn your yard into a more fire-resilient landscape.
• For Zone 1 – Immediate Zone (0-5 feet), plant, FireSmart Collection – Zone 1
• For Zone 2 – Intermediate Zone (5-30 feet), plant FireSmart Collection – Zone 2
• For Zone 3 – Extended Zone (30-100 feet), plant FireSmart Collection – Zone 3
Be sure to check local ordinances for defensible space requirements in your region.
