Description
Agastache cana ‘Sinning’ SONORAN SUNSET® (Hummingbird Mint) is a super hardy, improved variety of A. cana that is popular for its compact growth habit and exceptionally long bloom time. Large wands of vibrant pink flowers on 20 inch tall stalks pack a colorful punch in your garden from summer through fall. Named after its inventor, Duane Sinning, in honor of his contributions to horticulture and plant breeding.
Native to Texas and New Mexico, SONORAN SUNSET® thrives in well-drained, gritty soils and is drought-tolerant once established. This long-lived perennial freezes to the ground in winter but reemerges with vigor each spring. For optimal blooming, plant it in full to partial sun and deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering. Wait until spring to prune back old growth.
Agastache is essential to sustaining native pollinator populations. Its high nectar production and long bloom period ensure a reliable food source for pollinators during critical times of the year when other plants might not be flowering. The dense foliage and structure offer shelter and habitat for pollinators which is especially important for bees and other insects that need places to rest and hide from predators.
